Summer Game Fest 2026 delivered one of its biggest surprises with Square Enix officially revealing Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the highly anticipated final chapter in the remake trilogy. The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The announcement trailer offered fans an early look at several key moments from the upcoming RPG, including Vincent Valentine in combat, the towering presence of Ruby Weapon, and large-scale traversal sequences featuring parachutes and aerial exploration.

During the presentation, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the game will be released simultaneously across all announced platforms. The move marks a significant shift for the franchise, ending the platform exclusivity arrangements that accompanied earlier entries in the trilogy.

The reveal also highlighted expanded roles for Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. While both characters appeared in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, they were not fully playable party members. Revelation is expected to place them at the center of the action as players prepare for the trilogy’s concluding chapter.

Questions surrounding the story remain a major point of interest among fans. With the remake series introducing alternate timelines and an expanded role for Zack Fair, attention is now focused on how Square Enix intends to bring the complex narrative to a close.

Actor Matt Mercer joined Hamaguchi on stage to discuss new gameplay additions, including fresh battle systems and exploration mechanics. Footage shown during the presentation featured the iconic Highwind airship soaring across the world map, alongside Vincent’s powerful Limit Break abilities.

The trailer also hinted at a deeper exploration of Wutai, a location closely tied to fan-favorite character Yuffie Kisaragi. Many players are eager to see how the game expands upon her storyline and incorporates some of the memorable moments associated with her character from the original release.

As the final instalment in one of gaming’s most celebrated remake projects, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2027. With a simultaneous worldwide launch planned across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, fans will not have to wait much longer to discover how the reimagined saga reaches its conclusion.
