Netflix is teasing its latest K-drama with the line: “The story of two best friends brought together by love and torn apart by envy.” The new series, Me, You and a Lifetime, premieres on the streaming platform next Friday (12).
Led by rising stars Kim Go-Eun and Park Ji-Hyun, the show follows a friendship that stretches across three decades. What begins as a bond rooted in affection and loyalty slowly unravels over time, giving way to rivalry, comparison, and jealousy as the two friends grow older.
What is the story of me, you, and a lifetime?
Netflix’s original K-drama Me, You and a Lifetime tells the emotional story of Ryu Eun-jung and Cheon Sang-yeon, two childhood friends who once dreamed of making it in the entertainment world. Though they grew apart after a painful disagreement, both eventually found success—Eun-jung as a gifted screenwriter and Sang-yeon as a film director.
The drama begins when, at 42 years old, the women reunite under heartbreaking circumstances: one asks the other to accompany her through an assisted death. This request sets the stage for them to confront old wounds, reflect on their choices, and uncover how a once unbreakable friendship slowly fractured over time.
Beyond the personal story, the series also highlights the contrast in their upbringings—Eun-jung raised in a modest but warm household, and Sang-yeon in wealth but without emotional closeness. These differences shaped not only their lives but also the tensions within their relationship.
Speaking to The Korea Times, lead actresses Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun shared that they were fully committed to portraying their characters’ decades-long journey. Both adapted their physical appearance—gaining and losing weight for different life stages—and shifted their mannerisms and energy to reflect the joy, rivalry, and darker moments their characters experience.
The result promises a moving drama about love, envy, and the complicated bonds that shape a lifetime.
Who is part of the cast of the series?
In Me, You and a Lifetime, Kim Go-eun steps into the role of Eun-jung, a woman from humble beginnings. The actress is already well known to K-drama fans for standout performances in hit series such as Goblin (2016), where she played Ji Eun-tak, The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) as Jeong Tae-eul, and Rules of Love in the Big City (2024), portraying Jae-hee.
Her co-star, Park Ji-hyun, takes on the role of Cheon Sang-yeon, who comes from a wealthy but emotionally distant family. While she has appeared on television, Park is especially recognized for her work in cinema, including The Hidden Face (2024) as Kim Mi-joo and The Prohibited Fairy Tale (2025) as Danbi.
The cast also includes Kim Gun-woo, familiar to viewers from Dreamwalk (2020) and The Lesson (2022), adding further depth to the ensemble.
