Video game franchises continue to find new life on the small screen, with anime fast becoming the format of choice for studios adapting major IP. Following the success of titles like Castlevania and Arcane, Crunchyroll has announced its next big project: an anime based on FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The series, titled Sekiro: No Defeat, was revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Set in the same fictionalized Japan as the 2019 Game of the Year, the story takes place two decades later and follows Genichiro, grandson of Sword Saint Isshin Ashina. The show is slated to premiere on Crunchyroll in 2026.
Crunchyroll has already experimented with big-name video game anime, producing Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Shenmue: The Animation. With Sekiro, it joins the growing list of adaptations in development across streaming platforms.
