GSC Game World has confirmed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, the first major story expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, will launch on August 20, 2026.
The expansion will arrive on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Alongside the paid expansion, GSC will release Update 2.0, a free update for all players who own the base game.
Cost of Hope brings players back as Skif, the protagonist of Heart of Chornobyl. The new story begins after Skif receives a mysterious signal through his PDA, drawing him into events that unfold alongside the original game’s storyline.
GSC Game World says the expansion will introduce unexplored areas of the Zone, new allies, enemies, and weapons. The developer is promising dozens of hours of additional content, with player decisions influencing how the story develops.
The conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions will also take a more prominent role. Their long-running rivalry threatens to destroy the fragile balance that has existed between them, adding another layer of tension to Skif’s journey through the Zone.
Update 2.0 Arrives for All Players
The expansion will launch alongside Update 2.0, which will be available at no additional cost to existing owners of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
One of the biggest technical changes in the update will be the game’s move to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5. GSC says the upgrade will bring visual improvements and better performance, although the developer has not yet detailed the full list of changes.
The update will also include additional content and other improvements. GSC plans to reveal more information about both Update 2.0 and Cost of Hope in the weeks leading up to launch.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope will launch on August 20, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Update 2.0 will be released on the same day and will be free for everyone who already owns S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
