The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Hobby Japan’s HJ Bunko label announced on Thursday that Yusaku Sakaishi and Sakura Miwabe’s light novel series Saijo no Osewa is officially getting an anime adaptation.

Originally launched under HJ Bunko in May 2021, the series has steadily grown in popularity among light novel readers. The 11th volume is slated for release on October 31, further expanding the story’s romantic and comedic charm.

Alongside the novel, Saijo no Osewa also has a manga adaptation by Sorahiko Mizushima, which began serialisation on Hobby Japan’s Fire Cross website in September 2021. The manga has also experienced consistent releases, with the fourth volume published on July 1 and the fifth volume scheduled for release on December 1.

International fans may recognize the series by its English title, Rich Girl Caretaker: I’m Secretly the Caregiver of the Most Popular Girl in This Rich Kid School, licensed by Spain-based Monogatari Novels in October 2023. According to Amazon, the first English volume is currently set to ship on March 3, 2026, although Monogatari recently noted on X that customs issues and new tariffs have caused indefinite release delays. Their official website also appears to be temporarily inaccessible.

Synopsis

Rich Girl Caretaker follows Itsuki Tomonari, a regular high school student who becomes entangled in a kidnapping incident and ends up caring for Hinako Konohana, the daughter of one of Japan’s most powerful business families.

While Hinako appears to be the picture-perfect honor student at school, she’s secretly hopeless when it comes to basic life skills — clumsy, lazy, and heavily reliant on others. Due to family pressures, she maintains her flawless public image, but behind closed doors, Itsuki takes on the role of her discreet caretaker.

As Hinako begins to depend on him emotionally, their relationship slowly blossoms beyond duty, revealing a heartfelt and humorous connection that transcends the typical “master-servant” trope.

“Now… if Itsuki isn’t around, I would hate it.”

This touching romantic comedy explores themes of trust, affection, and the quiet acts of care that turn ordinary moments into something deeply special.

With an anime adaptation now confirmed, Saijo no Osewa (Rich Girl Caretaker) is set to reach an even wider audience, promising to deliver a mix of heartfelt moments, light comedy, and endearing romance when it finally makes its debut on screen.
