The gritty crime drama The Red Road has quietly returned to Netflix in the United States and several international markets, giving viewers another chance to revisit the short-lived but intense series. As of December 26, both seasons of the show—comprising all 12 episodes—are once again available to stream.

Originally produced for SundanceTV (now operating under AMC branding), The Red Road first aired between 2014 and 2015. The series previously had a multi-year run on Netflix in the U.S., debuting on the platform in 2015 before being removed in November 2019 when its licensing agreement expired.

Its reappearance follows a renewed content deal between Netflix and AMC that was finalised over the summer, bringing a selection of AMC titles back to the streaming service.

However, the return may be brief. Unlike many AMC shows that typically remain licensed for around a year, The Red Road is understood to be available for approximately six months. If the agreement is not extended, the series could be removed from Netflix again as early as June 26, 2026.

Viewers should also note that the show is currently unavailable on Netflix’s ad-supported tier, as some AMC content remains restricted on that plan.

A tense small-town drama

Before gaining global recognition through blockbuster roles, Jason Momoa starred in The Red Road as Phillip Kopus, a volatile and charismatic member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. The story is set in and around Walpole, New Jersey, exploring the fragile balance between a local town and the neighbouring Native American community in the Ramapough Mountains.

The narrative centers on a sheriff struggling to maintain order while dealing with personal turmoil. After a tragic incident involving a cover-up, he forms an uneasy alliance with Kopus—an arrangement that gradually spirals into deeper conflict and moral compromise.

The cast also includes Martin Henderson as the conflicted sheriff Harold Jensen, Julianne Nicholson as his troubled wife Jean, and Tom Sizemore as Phillip Kopus’s father. Across its two seasons, the show established a reputation for its raw tone, moral ambiguity, and performances that carried more weight than its brief run would suggest.

With its limited availability window, The Red Road’s return offers both longtime fans and first-time viewers a chance to revisit—or discover—a tense drama that left a lasting impression despite its short lifespan.
