A recent leak suggests that Kratos will wield an Egyptian sword in the next installment of the God of War series, hinting at a deeper exploration of Egyptian mythology in the storyline. Insider Tom Henderson shared new information about Ragnarök’s sequence in a video published Thursday (18).

After mastering the Chaos Blades and the Leviathan Axe, Kratos is set to use a weapon from the North African region, which Henderson compares to the style seen in the Prince of Persia games—possibly a khopesh.

Egyptian culture has appeared in several forms throughout the God of War universe. The previous two titles, released in 2018 and 2022, included subtle hints about Egyptian deities influencing humans with their powers. Additionally, the 2020 comic “Fallen God” takes place in Egypt.

In the story, Kratos is expected to interact with Thoth, the god of knowledge and wisdom. However, details about his visit or how other characters will respond remain unclear.

Egypt in God of War

The original concept for the God of War reboot was set in Egypt, with early concept art depicting Kratos and Atreus facing mythological creatures in a desert landscape. However, Cory Barlog later shifted the story to the Nordic realms, which became the foundation for the first game and its sequel, Ragnarök.

God of War Projects in Development

Sony appears to be working on several God of War projects, though none have been officially confirmed. Alongside the main game—likely featuring Kratos’s return to Egyptian mythology—rumors suggest remakes and even a fresh take on the series with a different protagonist.

Fans have long awaited a remake of the original God of War for its 20th anniversary, which has yet to materialize. Other speculation includes a Metroidvania-style game that could take players back to ancient Greece.
