With Avengers: Doomsday assembling a mix of veteran heroes and new recruits under the shadow of Latveria’s ruler, one Avenger at the center of speculation is Thor (Chris Hemsworth). As one of the original team members — and the oldest by a few millennia — the God of Thunder could play a pivotal role in the battle to come. But what happens to Thor after the film remains uncertain.
In a recent interview with the BBC while promoting his documentary series Limitless, Hemsworth was asked whether fans could expect a fifth solo Thor movie. His answer was playful but noncommittal:
“I don’t know. We’ll see where [Avengers: Doomsday] goes. We’re sort of unpacking all of that as we speak and figuring out where each of these characters goes.”
A Fifth Thor Movie?
While Marvel has not confirmed plans for Thor 5, the possibility remains open. Hemsworth has repeatedly said he would be willing to wield Mjolnir again if the right story came along. The actor has also been candid about the missteps of Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), which faced backlash for leaning too heavily into comedy. Reflecting on that film, Hemsworth admitted:
“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.”
That self-awareness has only fueled speculation that Hemsworth may want another shot at delivering a more grounded, definitive solo chapter for the Asgardian hero.
Hemsworth’s Love for the Role
Despite the uncertainty, Hemsworth’s affection for the character he has portrayed for over 14 years is unwavering. In a 2023 interview with ComicBook, he said:
“Hey, mate, I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe, and if there’s more to come, then I’m excited about it. Nothing official yet. I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and waiting for the news to see… But, you know, I love it.”
For now, fans will have to wait and see where Thor’s journey goes next. His next confirmed appearance will be in Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
