The light novel series A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans is officially getting an anime adaptation. Along with the announcement came a teaser trailer, a key visual, and details on the main staff and cast. The series is set to debut in January 2026.

The story centers on Rei Hitoma, a human who finds himself teaching at a very unusual school—one attended by demi-humans hoping to learn what it means to become human. The teaser introduces its colorful cast, blending fantasy charm with lighthearted comedy.

Production Team

The series will be directed by Akira Iwanaga (The Morose Mononokean) at asread.. Series composition is handled by Katsuhiko Takayama (Baka & Test), with Maiko Okada (Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory) designing the characters and Makoto Miyazaki (One Punch Man) composing the music.

About the Story

Yen Press publishes the English edition of the light novel, written by Kurusu Natsume with illustrations by Sai Izumi. The series follows Rei Hitoma, who calls himself a misanthrope after past hardships.

Hoping for a quiet teaching job in the mountains, he instead discovers his new school is for demi-humans—a mermaid, a werewolf, a rabbit, and a bird—who all want to understand humanity. Tasked with guiding them, Rei begins to realize that he might also learn something about himself along the way.
