Korean publisher WEMADE MAX and developer MADNGINE have officially unveiled Project TAL, an ambitious open-world action RPG rooted in Korean mythology and traditional Tal masks.

The game, currently in development for PC and consoles, is aiming for a 2027 release and promises to deliver a cinematic single-player adventure that blends emotional storytelling with fast-paced combat.

Drawing inspiration from Korea’s deep cultural heritage, Project TAL reinterprets Tal—traditional Korean masks often used in ritual dances—into a fantastical world where myth and legend intertwine. Players will embark on a journey through a war-torn realm filled with divine creatures, ancient spirits, and colossal foes that evoke both beauty and danger.

Intense, Vertical Combat

The debut trailer highlights dynamic, high-energy combat sequences where players can scale towering enemies in a manner reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus. The system rewards precision and momentum, encouraging players to chain attacks, counter enemies, and exploit weaknesses mid-battle. Combat appears to prioritize agility and continuous action, with smooth transitions between melee, ranged, and magical attacks.

Adaptive Companions and Team Synergy

One of Project TAL’s standout mechanics is its AI-driven companion system. Players will fight alongside NPC allies that actively adjust their tactics based on the player’s style and battlefield conditions. Each companion fulfils a unique role — such as defence, support, melee, ranged, or magic — and the trailer teases moments of seamless cooperation, like allies rescuing each other during combat or creating protective barriers in real time.

This focus on team coordination aims to make large-scale encounters more strategic and immersive, ensuring companions feel like integral partners rather than background support.
