The high-profile series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions, has already secured a two-season order. Pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver, with casting now ramping up.

The show is being led by writer, showrunner, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, best known for Outlander and For All Mankind. The story follows Kratos and his 10-year-old son Atreus as they journey to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, Faye.

Along the way, father and son confront gods, monsters, and their own emotional scars, with Kratos struggling to raise a better god while Atreus attempts to bring out his father’s humanity.

Kratos, the central figure of the franchise, is a Spartan warrior who became a god after making a devastating bargain with Ares, the Greek God of War. Across more than ten successful games, the character has become one of gaming’s most recognizable icons, defined by his brutal combat skills, stoic demeanor, and tragic history.

The series boasts a large creative team, with executive producers including Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon, among others. Frederick E.O. Toye is attached to direct the first two episodes.

Palmer recently starred in The Family Next Door and AMC+’s The Last Anniversary. She is widely recognized for her lead role as Diana Bishop in A Discovery of Witches, as well as film roles in Warm Bodies, Hacksaw Ridge, and The Fall Guy. She has also completed filming on the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios feature Subversion alongside Chris Hemsworth.

With major casting now in place and production advancing, Prime Video’s God of War adaptation is shaping up to be one of the platform’s most ambitious genre projects to date.
