Netflix has officially announced The Bad Guys: Breaking In, a brand-new animated prequel series to DreamWorks Animation’s hit franchise The Bad Guys. The show will premiere globally on November 6, 2025, giving fans a fresh look at how the crew first got into the “bad guy” business.

Set before the events of the two feature films, the series explores the early adventures of the group long before they made “heist-ory.” According to the official synopsis, viewers will finally discover how the team came together and learned the ropes of their criminal craft in a story packed with humor, action, and heart.

Netflix’s Ongoing Partnership with DreamWorks

Netflix already has a strong connection with The Bad Guys franchise. The streamer currently hosts two DreamWorks-produced holiday specials:

  • The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday (released in November 2023)
  • The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist (released in October 2024)

In addition, Netflix holds partial first-window rights to DreamWorks Animation’s theatrical releases in the United States. This means that The Bad Guys 2, which debuted in theatres earlier this summer, will make its way to Netflix in early 2026, likely around March, for an exclusive 10-month streaming window.

Cast of “The Bad Guys: Breaking In”

While the main film cast — including Sam Rockwell, Craig Robinson, and Awkwafina — won’t be reprising their roles, the prequel features a talented new voice lineup:

  • Michael Godere (The Affair) as Wolf
  • Ezekiel Ajeigbe (Outer Banks) as Shark
  • Raul Ceballos (The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib) as Piranha
  • Chris Diamantopoulos (American Dad) as Snake
  • Mallory Low (Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) as Tarantula
  • Zehra Fazal (Dew Drop Diaries) as Tiffany Fluffit
  • Patton Oswalt (The Sandman) as Mr. Wigglesworth
  • Kate Mulgrew (Orange Is the New Black) as Serpentina

Behind the Scenes

In an exclusive interview with Collider, executive producers Bret Haaland and Katherine Nolfi revealed that they worked closely with the film’s creative team while developing the series.

Nolfi shared her excitement about the project, saying:

“As a fan of the books and movies, it’s been a joy to collaborate with such an amazing team. Exploring the early days of The Bad Guys and how they try to become the smooth, confident crew we know from the films has been a blast. I couldn’t ask for a better team of actors, writers, directors, and artists to pull off this heist.”

Collider also released an exclusive first-look image from the upcoming series, giving fans a glimpse of the stylish animation and familiar characters in their early escapades.

The Bad Guys: Breaking In continues the long-standing partnership between Netflix and DreamWorks Television, which has produced numerous hit animated series over the past decade — including The Boss Baby: Back in Business, Spirit Riding Free, Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, and The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.

While several older DreamWorks shows have since left the platform, many remain available — with some, like Gabby’s Dollhouse, still receiving new episodes.

One important note: like other DreamWorks Animation series on Netflix, The Bad Guys: Breaking In will not be available to subscribers on the ad-supported plan. To watch, you’ll need an ad-free Netflix subscription.
