Most of us can’t resist scooping up free in-game rewards whenever they drop—whether it’s flashy cosmetics, extra missions, or anything that expands a game we already enjoy.

And luckily for Borderlands fans, 2K and Gearbox have just dropped a brand-new freebie for Borderlands 4, with even more on the horizon.

Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day — Free Now

Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1

In a joint announcement, 2K and Gearbox confirmed that Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day is now available—and, in an unexpected twist, it’s completely free for all Borderlands 4 players.

This wasn’t the original plan. Normally, add-on content for Borderlands 4 comes at a cost, but the studios decided to release this pack at no charge after running out of time to include everything they originally wanted for the holiday-themed update.

Explaining the move, they said players can now join Rush, the cheerful head of the Outbounders, to take down Minister Screw and restore holiday joy to the people of Kairos. The team emphasised that they wanted fans to have the festive content before the end of the year—but ongoing work on improving Borderlands 4 meant they couldn’t finish the pack as fully as they hoped.

“So, in the spirit of the season,” they wrote, Bounty Pack 1 is being released for free as a thank-you to the community for its support. It went live at 5:00 p.m. GMT and is available for download now.

More (and Bigger) Bounty Packs Are Coming

Perhaps the most exciting part for longtime fans is what comes next. Both companies confirmed that more Bounty Packs are in development, and these future drops will be larger and packed with features and content that players have specifically requested.

Borderlands 4 Keeps Improving

The main game has also come a long way since launch. Over the past several months, the developers have addressed several performance issues and added several user-requested quality-of-life improvements—making now a great time to jump back in if you’ve been waiting for refinements.

If this first free Bounty Pack is anything to go by, Borderlands 4 players have a lot to look forward to in the coming updates.
