Xbox has found itself in hot water once again—this time over a major price hike for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The subscription, once praised as one of the best deals in gaming, will now cost 50% more each month, and fans are not taking the news lightly.

Many players who once saw Game Pass Ultimate as a must-have—thanks to day-one Xbox exclusives—are now reconsidering whether it’s worth the cost. For some, the added “bonus features” Microsoft touted feel like unnecessary fluff rather than genuine improvements.

Mass Cancellations Crash Microsoft’s System

In protest, countless subscribers attempted to cancel their memberships, only to find that the official cancellation page crashed under the sudden wave of traffic. The page is back online now, but the damage is done—many long-time members are choosing to walk away until Microsoft rethinks its decision.

For players unwilling to pay the higher price, a few options remain:

  • PC Game Pass: Still offers day-one releases at a lower cost, though without some of the perks tied to Ultimate.
  • GameStop Promo: The retailer has announced it will continue selling Game Pass Ultimate at the old price—for now.

This isn’t the first time Xbox has faced backlash over pricing decisions. A similar outcry erupted years ago when the company tried to raise the cost of Xbox Live Gold. That move was quickly reversed after widespread criticism, raising hopes that Microsoft may once again backtrack in response to fan pressure.
