Nintendo is set to hold two separate Nintendo Direct presentations next week, including a special showcase celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.
September is traditionally a busy month for Nintendo announcements, and this year’s Direct rumors have now been confirmed. The company revealed through the Nintendo Today app that a dedicated Zelda presentation will be followed by a larger, general Nintendo Direct one day later.
The first presentation will take place on September 8, 2026, at 7 am PT, 10 am ET and 3 pm BST. The 30-minute Nintendo Direct will be entirely focused on The Legend of Zelda and the franchise’s 40th anniversary.
A second Nintendo Direct will follow on September 9 at the same time. That presentation will run for approximately 45 minutes and will cover Nintendo’s broader lineup.
Ocarina of Time Remake Expected to Take Center Stage
The Zelda anniversary presentation is expected to provide a major update on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which is scheduled to release this year.
Nintendo has not revealed what will be shown during the presentation, but the remake is an obvious candidate given both its upcoming launch and the franchise’s anniversary. The anniversary Direct could potentially provide a deeper look at the game, including new gameplay footage and release information.
There is also speculation that Nintendo could reveal its upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie during the presentation. The possibility comes after Nintendo used last year’s Super Mario Bros. anniversary presentation to show the first footage from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Zelda movie is currently expected to arrive next May, although Nintendo has not confirmed that it will appear during the Direct.
Fans are also hoping for announcements surrounding The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, though there is currently no confirmation that either game will be announced.
The Main Nintendo Direct Could Bring Bigger Surprises
The September 9 presentation is where things become considerably less predictable.
A new Metroid title has been circulating in rumors for some time, making it one possible candidate for the showcase. There has also been speculation surrounding a new 3D Mario game.
The leaker who previously claimed that an Ocarina of Time remake was in development has reportedly suggested that a new 3D Mario game is targeting 2027. If that information proves accurate, Nintendo could potentially use the September Direct to provide its first official look at the project.
For now, however, these remain unconfirmed reports. Nintendo has not announced the games that will appear during either presentation beyond confirming the Zelda anniversary focus of the September 8 Direct.
Treehouse Live Will Follow the September 9 Direct
Nintendo’s plans extend beyond the two Direct presentations. Following the September 9 showcase, the company will host a Nintendo Treehouse Live broadcast featuring 110 minutes of gameplay from titles shown during the Direct.
That should give viewers an extended look at at least some of the games featured during the presentation, potentially providing more detailed gameplay demonstrations than the main showcase can accommodate.
With the Ocarina of Time remake arriving this year, the Zelda franchise reaching its 40th anniversary and several major Nintendo projects rumored to be in development, both presentations could make September a significant month for Nintendo fans. The company, however, is keeping the actual announcements under wraps until the broadcasts begin.
