“Lookism” is a South Korean webtoon (an online comic) created by Park Tae-joon. It has been published on Naver Webtoon since November 20, 2014; as of May 2023, it consists of twenty-five volumes.
The story revolves around Park Hyungseok, an overweight high school student who faces bullying because of his appearance. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he wakes up in a new body—tall, handsome, and athletic. Hyungseok has to adapt to his transformed life and deal with the challenges and complexities of being attractive.
What Happened in Lookism Chapter 469
Chapter 469 of Lookism teaches us more about Jake’s brother and his connection to Jinyoung and James Lee.
We’re taken back to Jake’s childhood, where we see his brother, a kind and caring person who always looked out for him. Jake greatly admired his brother, who was kind and very strong.
Tragically, Jake’s brother was killed by Gaap Young. This loss devastated Jake, and he promised to avenge his brother’s death. He trained hard to become a skilled fighter but still couldn’t match Gaap Young’s strength.
Here’s where things get complicated. Jinyoung reveals that he falsely told Jake that his brother was Gaap Young’s killer. In reality, it was James Lee who had defeated Gaap Young.
The reason for Jinyoung’s lie remains unclear. He might have wanted to shield Jake from the harsh truth. Jake’s brother was a gentle soul, and knowing his death led to violence might have been too much for him to bear.
We also glimpse a flashback of James Lee and Jake’s brother fighting Gaap Young together. They managed to defeat Gaap Young, but it was a tough battle. This flashback shows that Jake’s brother was as strong as James Lee and had the potential to be one of the world’s greatest fighters if he hadn’t been killed.
The chapter ends with Jake confronting Jinyoung about the lie. Jake is furious and wants to know why Jinyoung deceived him about his brother. Jinyoung refuses to answer, setting the stage for a showdown between them.
The future between Jake and Jinyoung is uncertain, and there’s a lot of tension between them. We’re left wondering why James Lee killed Gaap Young and allowed Jinyoung to lie about Jake’s brother’s death. These mysteries will hopefully be unraveled in future chapters of Lookism.
