The Demon’s Souls remake has made a surprising leap on PC emulation, with the PlayStation 5 title now reaching around 30 FPS on KytyPS5, a PS5 emulator still in active development.
YouTube user PSXTech showcased the latest results in a video published Sunday, September 13. The footage shows the remake running close to the 30 FPS mark, although performance remains far from stable. Camera movement can trigger sharp drops, with the frame rate falling below 18 FPS in some scenes.
Even with those limitations, the progress is notable. Just two days before the latest test, Demon’s Souls was reportedly running at only around 2 FPS on the same emulator.
AI Reportedly Behind the Performance Boost
According to a Reddit discussion, the dramatic improvement is linked to the use of AI-assisted techniques in the emulator.
The reported changes reduced CPU demands while preserving graphical quality and improving the game’s performance. The approach also helped adapt the emulator to newer code, allowing Demon’s Souls to make better use of the latest development work.
The experiment was reportedly conducted on a powerful PC featuring an Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D processor.
PSXTech has also published a comparison showing the remake running natively on PlayStation 5 alongside the emulated version through KytyPS5.
PS5 Emulation Is Moving Quickly
Demon’s Souls is far from the only example of rapid progress in PlayStation 5 emulation.
KytyPS5 has continued to attract attention as its community grows, while other projects are also making notable advances. Recent demonstrations have included Grand Theft Auto V running at up to 60 FPS through PS5 emulation.
Another project, SharpEmu, has reportedly gone even further by demonstrating PS5 emulation running on the Steam Deck, showing how quickly the technology is expanding beyond high-end desktop PCs.
None of these demonstrations should be confused with full compatibility. Getting a game to launch or briefly reach a target frame rate is very different from delivering a stable experience from beginning to end.
Demon’s Souls Remake Gets a New Life Through Emulation
The progress is particularly interesting because the Demon’s Souls remake is already available natively on PlayStation 5 and PC, meaning emulation is not currently the only way to play the game on a computer.
Still, its rapid improvement on KytyPS5 highlights how quickly developers and contributors are pushing the boundaries of PS5 emulation.
The timing also adds another layer to the story. Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the remake, was reportedly shut down by Sony in February 2026. As work on PS5 emulation continues, projects such as KytyPS5 could eventually become increasingly important to preserving games tied to hardware that may become harder to access in the future.
For now, Demon’s Souls running at 30 FPS on an emulator is an impressive technical milestone, but the frequent frame drops make it clear that there is still considerable work ahead before the remake can be considered fully playable on the PS5.
