Black Clover is officially returning this fall, with the second season of the anime adaptation now scheduled to premiere in Japan on October 3.

The release date was announced in the latest issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, confirming that the long-awaited continuation of Yūki Tabata’s popular manga adaptation will begin airing later this year.

The new season will premiere on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations at 11:00 p.m. JST on October 3. In Japan, episodes will also be available through Anime Times, Lemino, U-NEXT and Anime Hōdai.

Black Clover Season 2 Gets New Theme Songs

The new season will feature music from two Japanese acts.

WANIMA will perform the opening theme, “Kienai Riyū,” which translates to “The Reason that Won’t Disappear.”

Meanwhile, ONE OR EIGHT will provide the ending theme with “Yellow Brick Road.”

International fans will also have an opportunity to see the new season ahead of its television rollout. Crunchyroll is screening a preview of Black Clover Season 2 through its Crunchyroll Anime Nights program in U.S. theaters on September 21.

Following the theatrical preview, Crunchyroll will stream the series as new episodes air.

Studio Pierrot Returns for the New Season

Ayataka Tanemura is returning to direct the second season. Tanemura previously directed episodes 153 through 170 of the original Black Clover television series and also served as director of the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.

Studio Pierrot, which handled the animation for the original television series, is once again producing the anime.

The return of the original animation studio and a director with extensive experience on the franchise should give the new season a familiar visual and production foundation.

The Original Black Clover Anime Ended in 2021

The first Black Clover television anime premiered in Japan in October 2017. Although the series was initially announced with a 51-episode order, it continued beyond that point and subsequently entered additional seasons.

The anime ultimately concluded its initial television run in March 2021 with episode 170.

Crunchyroll streamed the Japanese version with English subtitles, while Funimation handled the English dub. The series also made its way to Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in the United States in December 2017.

The franchise later expanded to the big screen with Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. The film opened in Japan and was released worldwide through Netflix in June 2023.

Yūki Tabata’s Manga Continues

Tabata launched Black Clover in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. The manga later moved from the weekly publication to the quarterly Jump Giga magazine in 2023.

Viz Media publishes the series in both print and digital formats, while Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform also offers the manga digitally.

With Season 2 now set for October, the anime will finally continue the story more than five years after the original television run ended. The new season will also give international audiences another chance to follow Asta and the other members of the Clover Kingdom’s magical world as the adaptation moves forward.
